Ref Week of Christmas!!!

 

First of all...

Merry Christmas!!!!!

 

We only have games on 4 days this week.  I'm sorry if you didn't get all of the shifts you were hoping for with Christmas here.

 

Friendly reminder...Especially on Wednesday and Thursday nights, referees please remember to wear a dark undershirt and Assistance Referees, please make sure you are wearing a referee jersey.

 

Yes, we want the above 24/7 but if you forget, we hope you remember specifically on Wednesday and Thursday nights!!

 

Also, if you are looking for any certain number of shifts when you turn in availability, please let me know. I can work the schedule around a little bit if you have a bigger need on a given week.

 

If you don't have a specific need that is fine as well.

We have an open time keeper shift Monday night.  We need the first game covered on Thursday evening at 4:$0 hen we are good.  Last, Saturday on mini field we need time keeper coverage.

There are timekeeper openings wed, Thursday and Saturday.  Please let me know ASAP.  Also, We may need the first game covered Wednesday for timekeeping as it will be hard for Jenny to get there by 4:40.

Happy Thanksgiving!  Please remember a reason you are thankful this week...we all have a lot to be thankful for but we overlook the little things!

 

Now on to Business.  We have a few openings on Saturday.  3 games on the big filed and 4 on the mini field.

 

Note:  If you do not send in availability I will not assign you any shifts.  At this point everyone is capable of taking a few minutes each week to send it availability.   IF you cant do that it tells me you don't really want to work.  Just wanted to remind everyone how I feel about this subject.

For all of the newbies and as a refresher.  Color of block outweighs initials so if there is any doubt, your color is what rules. 

Ask if you have questions.

Seniority/quality/availability

 

No necessarily in that order but those are all things that get looked at.  I may ask you how you feel an individual is doing and I would like honest responses.  I don't share that with others...and I may not take it in to consideration....but I might as well.

 

Just know that players can be the biggest tellers of officials performance.  I get facebook messages, text messages and emails as well as office feedback.

This is just to make you aware that people are watching us all the time.

 

 

 

Need help with Timekeeper Thursday on big an mini field.   Maybe the new timekeeper can assist?

Also need help with 1 game on Mini filed Thursday...I have Miguel doing the first 2 then 2 on the big field so we need the last mini field game covered Thursday night.

This is a VERY TEMP schedule as scheduling for next week is under way.  I may send out texts during the week looking for coverage.  I will update this again as things become more solid.  Right now open mini field shift Wednesday.

 

Right now weekend is open as I am waiting to see what the schedule looks like so I will have needs over the weekend.

 

We need to start thinking about a ref meeting.  Now that things are settling down a little bit and Fall Soccer is over we should start planning for an upcoming meeting.

 

Saturdays seem to be a decent time for most people but once we get into the Youth groove we can solidify a meeting.

MONDAY NIGHT NEEDS COVERAGE.

We also have mini field wed and Thursday night as well as Sunday late.

I will share an experience for those who have not had the joy of a player being physical with the referee.

 

In short, I gave a guy a blue card for dissent, he was in goal and thought I had missed 2 calls in his favor.  He had just given up a goal where he felt he was kicked.

He came rapidly out of the goal at me taking his gloves off.  I had the blue held up at him and he slapped my arm down knocking the card out of my hands. 

I immediately pulled the red and told him to get off the ##%^ field.

He turned back to me throwing his goalie gloves in my face and then made more body contact with me.

 

I wasn't very happy as I "walked him" towards the bench explaining the finer things in life...well, maybe I cursed him out all the way to the bench, small detail, then I called the game. There were about 4 minutes left and my adrenaline was in full force so I figured it was best to not finish that one in case anyone else wanted to be tough.

 

 

So point of the story is this, while I didn't punch the player as I truly thought I was going to have to, think about how you would handle yourself in the same situation, what would you have done?  How could you keep your cool better than I did.

Also, please remember communication with the players is key.  You can fix a lot by communicating...when players are going hard remind them to calm down and or slow down...or keep it safe on the wall, no fouls etc...

 

Reffing can be simple if you make it simple.

Just an update for me...My schedule has changed some and I am not as available at this time.  I have limited switching availability and limited option late.  Pretty much Friday or days there is no school the next day. 

 

I appreciate each of you and the work you put in to Lets Play.

While we are slower than "normal" keep in mind players are trying out the "other" place while playing here.  So be patient and keep working hard to be the best officials you can be.

Jim is still out of town so he won't be able to swap.  I changed the blog address due to so many ex employees being over at SoccerHaus.

I felt like this was needed as I want to keep our messages to ourselves.

I think most people don't care but I do feel a few may want to know what we are doing or posting.

 

It looks like we might be getting new turf next week with install starting next Saturday which would put us a week without games so keep that in mind.

 

Also keep in mind we are in the slowest session of the year so shifts will be fewer.  I will do my best to keep people happy.
